Hot springs can be defined as stream of water that is ejected to the surface of the earth from underground. These features usually form naturally without the influence of human beings. Here are facts regarding Hot springs in California.

The water is at a slightly higher temperature than the surrounding air and the human body. Even when ice is forming in winter, the water stays warmer and unfrozen. The water may become turbulent sometimes due to the formation of bubbles. There are different ways through which this features form.

Heating of underground water is one way through which these features are formed. Rocks surrounding the rocks heat the water which makes it to expand. The heated water tries to find its way onto the earth surface as it expands. As the water is heated, it increases in pressure, making it to come out on the surface as a hot spring. The water may be ejected high into the air, depending on the amount of pressure it is under.

The water pools on the surface when it is ejected. The pool of water may also flow in the direction where the ground is tilted to. In cases where the pressure is very high, the water is thrown into the air several feet before returning to the ground. This forms a water fountain. The pressure at which water is ejected can be very high, making it capable of generating geothermal energy.

Different kinds of mineral are present in the ejected water. Some people believe that certain skin diseases such as eczema can be cured by the water because of the minerals.
