Tips For Buying Secondhand Mobile Cranes For Sale

By Bobby Butler

If you are looking for an industrial machine and you do not have the cash to buy a new one, there are many dealers of second-hand equipment you could buy from. However, most people are resistant to such options because they may have had a bad experience in the past. Well, that is not exceptional, and you should be really cautious. Below are some tips that could help you out when seeking mobile cranes for sale.

When it comes to second-hand machines, hours of operation is a critical factor that you should not ignore. Do not be misled by the year of manufacture. One crane could be ten years old and still much better than one that is merely three years into service. This is because how the machine is used is a determinant on its wearing out.

Check the equipment history. Before even testing the crane, you should ask the previous owner if the vehicle was ever seized. A yes response would indicate that the equipment was not being taken care of properly by the previous owner. If the machine has an on-site accident history, that would be a huge red flag.

Check the credibility of the seller. It is good to buy a used machine from a trustworthy seller. If the dealer has a website, you can check for online reviews from other clients so that you can know whether they are safe to deal with. If there are too many unresolved complaints, then just avoid that seller.

Personally inspect the crane. You do not have to be a mechanic to be able to see mechanical problems in an industrial machine. If you check the hidden places, you will easily notice if there are issues. A good indicator is the presence of residual stains such as oil marks where they are not supposed to be.

Look out for welding signs. If you realize that the crane has undergone post-OEM welding, then you are likely viewing a bad machine. Manual welds are easy to see regardless of how good the welder may have been. If there was a problem, ask why it was never taken for automated welding.

Pay close attention to engine sounds. Every machine that operates using an engine has a particular sound and you can simply tell that seething is wrong if this sound changes. If there is a problem, you should know its nature and if it is serious.

Get a testing appointment. When you go to buy a car, you want to get behind the wheel so that you can experience driving it. This should be the same when looking for a crane to buy. You need to test the breaks, levers, and other parts to ensure that they are all working properly.

Lastly, check the price. Price is the main determinant whether you will buy the machine because if you cannot afford it then you cannot have it. Have a budget so that you search for equipment that is within your means. For most used machines, the price is normally negotiable, so do not be shy to negotiate.
