The Basic Concepts Regarding Paper Mounts

By Ann Barnes

There are many different ways that can be used to mount different paper arts, for example prints, posters, photographs and many other pieces. Primarily, it is important for any piece of art that is in form of picture frames, to essentially be mounted on a board such as a backboard, so as to ensure the piece of art is held and positioned very well onto the frame. Paper mounts are very important especially in the field of art.

The method of mounting papers varies according to the material available, tools, the type of photo at hand, the convenience of work and the entire cost. It is important to conserve the photos from damage, there are different option s including dry mounting, wet mounting, conservation and pressure sensitive.

A combination of well-done framing and mounting is able to give an amazing visual expression because this separates the photo from its background as opposed to just using a simple basic frame. It is important for someone to learn how to learn to mount on their own because it becomes a routine that one can enjoy doing and even save on money since you will not have to outsource the task.

It is most important to keep a picture in focus and having the central attention by mounting it on a larger mounting board and then later making the frame lager. The material that is used during mounting varies in cost since those that follow all the instruction and techniques are always more expensive. Frames that are custom made for a specific item have a high value compared to the readymade which have a standard size for all.

There are many items that may be used in non-archival mounting modalities or techniques, and some of the most notable ones include children art, newsprint, posters, cheap prints, duplicate photographs, ink jet prints alongside many others. Also, others include any other form of low value artwork, or even things that one intends to remain flat on permanent basis.

Situations may arise where the paper mounted does not have to fit the frame exactly and this also brings out a beautiful design. This frame may also not be of the standard dimensions and this too will be a good design for different purpose.

The metal frame gives a sharp clean look on the image and makes it appear narrower than the wooden one since the material has more strength. The wood one is classic and gives variety of looks such as textured borders and modern lines. A canvas floater makes the image appear as if it is floating inside the frame without coming into contact with it. Matting is not used making the surface visible.

For very important photos on Paper which contain critical information such as professional or even personal ones the conservation skills are of value because if not well done they could bring about serious consequences that could be avoided.
