Kitchen and food utensils are very important tools in our house. By the name itself, they are primarily used to cook, serve and eat our food. These things help us in almost all activities at home that involves food.

There are utensils for kitchen and eating use. There are also different types of utensils according to the materials being used. Some are made of copper, aluminum, iron and even from wood. Wooden utensils, like maple bowls, are a bit heavier compare to aluminum but they definitely look good in your table and is one of a kind.

These types of kitchenware needed to be cleaned properly and must be maintained. Some people like to use these wooden tools because they find it very pretty to look at when displayed on their tables, while some might just be fascinated by wooden items, but whatever their reason is, we should always take care of these things and here are some ways on how to do it.

Wash after use. When using these types of kitchenware, you should wash them immediately after using them. This is done to avoid the food particles to stick in the tool which you may find it hard to remove once it sticks there. Also, when washing, use warm water and use the soft side of the sponge to avoid any scratches on the tool.

Stay away from heat. Do not ever put these tools in a dishwasher because the heat will really destroy your wooden kitchenware. Right after you have washed the tools, just let it dry or wipe it with a cloth if you want to dry it faster. And when you microwave some foods, do not ever use these wooden bowls because the heat could crack the bowl.

Spill your white vinegar. You may not notice but some food would leave tiny grains in your bowl. These grains may not be remove by just simply washing your bowls with soap, therefore, it is advisable that you spill some white vinegar on those tools. The white vinegar could kill those bacteria that were created because of the tiny grains which have not removed by washing.

Smooth it out. Try to feel your utensils if you could notice something rough and coarse, it might be some tiny particles from the food or the wood has started to get fuzzy. All you need to do to fix this is problem is to use sandpaper. Rub the sandpaper in the area where there is a fuzzy feeling. Softly rub it so that you will not cause more damage to the tools.

Oiling. Sometimes, because of constant use of these type of utensils, the color and its shine gets fade. In order to bring back the shine of your wooden kitchen ware, apply some oil unto it. You may apply the oil with a clean cloth or just using your fingers and then wipe it properly. Make sure you have applied the oil in the entire body so that the glossiness would get even.

Proper storage. When you have done using and washing them, put it right away in its proper storage to avoid damage. The storage must be a safe place and must be away from any form of heat, like sunlight. Any form of heat can actually destroy your wooden kitchen tools, it could cause cracking, dryness and discoloring.
