Things To Remember About The Great Arapahoe Nation

Arapahoes are best known to be amazing beings since they are wealthy in history, culture and tradition. The lives of these people commonly focuses on hunting for buffaloes as their source of food. Arapahoes are close allies of Cheyenne.

It is known that Arapaho tribes of today are grouped in two. The Arapahoe Nation is mainly grouped with the Northern Arapahoes and the southern ones. Northern Arapahoes live on a reservation. The land belongs to the tribe. It is even under control by them. Southern Arapahoes mainly live on a trust land. These tribes obtain their own government, policies, services and laws. The tribes are part of the nation as US citizens. They are not exempted from the American law.

Arapahoe children are not distant from the city kids. They do things that are done by the city children. Children always love to play but what makes Arapahoe kids contrasting from the city ones is they spend more of their time working inside their homes by following orders and commands from their parents than to play outside. These children are often caught hunting and fishing with their fathers as they love to do it.

Arapahoe women and men have their own set of rules. These rules are not truly far from common city folks. Men are obliged to look for food to feed their families. They are also responsible in defending their families, people and homeland from dangerous ordeals. Men are commonly the ones chosen as chiefs.

Men also have exemplary roles. They do the same things like city men. Arapaho men look for a living. Men are considered as hunter and warriors. They hunt for food for a living so their family will never get hungry. They are mainly responsible for feeding their families and defending them from undesirable or dangerous situations. Men are commonly chosen as chief in the tribe.

Arapahoe homes look simple. They obtain a tent alike home. They call these tipis. Tipis are not confusedly built. They prefer to have homes like this so it will be effortless for them to set and break it easily. Doing it can give them more hours on traveling since Arapahoes are wanderers.

Arapahoe clothing may look plain yet they are embroidered special. Women preferred to wear simple buckskin dresses paired with split skirts while men always wear leggings and breech cloth. The traditional clothing is often sensed to be more artistic. Women embroidered it with elk teeth in rows, beads and porcupine quills. They even wear moccasins up to this day.

For transportation, cars and other engine automobiles are not common to them. They even do not use boats for travel since they travel more on land. What they use for transportation are dogs pulling travois. Travois is a kind of sled. They use the sleds to carry their belongings easily. But when they were introduced with horses, the tribes then have made their ways in becoming great riders even in greater distances.

Arapahoes are truly rich in history. The people are even known to be extraordinary artists as they are fully furnished with embroidery and bead work. Each of the story made by their elders are still told until today particularly to the little ones. Their tales are all full of fantasies and legends.
