The Story Behind The History Fort Myers Florida

By Jony Mozen

In the past, there was an aggression between many countries and there was need for countries to arm themselves for defense in case an enemy came looming. Nations armed themselves in many ways and the best way to defend a particular area during that time was building a stronghold. Therefore, you need to know the history Fort Myers Florida has and its purpose.

The history of Fort Myers depicts that Florida was the place to construct this memorable castle. This is because it had more advantage in giving the soldiers an easy time in suppressing the resistance of the Indians. The specific location for the castle is on the banks of Caloosahatchee River. The riverbank was a good place to detect any invasion and to prevent the attack.

The American army built this stronghold during the American and the Indian wars. The Americans and the native Indians of America were fighting for land. This competition escalated once the whites were increasing in population and the Indians on the other hand became threatened for losing their land to the Americans. The garrison was then built to serve this purpose.

The core responsibility of the garrison was to offer protection and a place for putting the weapons for the soldiers. In a war, it is dangerous to keep your weapons without a proper protection against your enemies because they can use them against you. Therefore, the stronghold was the ideal place to keep the equipment because it gave an assurance that the Indians could not access them.

The soldiers of the American army were highly advantaged by this building because they were assured of a place to seek refuge in case the war does not favor them. The high walls and the strong gates will make it difficult for their enemies to ambush them successfully. The structure of the garrison would also enable them to strike their enemies while inside the walls.

The fortress was put in a place where there is an abundance of food. Before the building of this garrison, the Indians had wanted to put up villages in that exact area. This is because it had sufficiency in food that could have supported their livelihoods. The war was all about fighting for survival on the part of the Indians because the Americans were pushing them to desolate places.

For the stronghold to be maintained in its original form there was a group of people responsible in ensuring that its strength is maintained. Every soldier understood the importance of the garrison because it protected their lives from attacks. The commander in charge of the base was responsible in taking good care of the castle and every equipment in it.

It is impossible to find people fighting for a bare and an unproductive land This is because it has nothing of value. Even during the colonial era, the vast wastelands were left bare. The minerals and resources that can be mined determine the productivity of a piece of land The atmosphere this area also contributed a great deal in bringing the conflict. This castle was constructed in productive area.
