Among those things you need to accept if you?re a journalist is that you wouldn?t have much pay compared to other careers such as being a nurse, engineer or manager. Journalism is more about writing articles which takes a few minutes to finish and hard to create which pays very little. Of course if you?re writing a book or a novel and become really good at it, then being a writer would be a great career for you. Unfortunately, excellent as well as genius articles are not credited in journalism. So, if you?re looking for money in this kind of career then it?s better to cross this career out of your list.

Less to no promotion Another truth about the journalism career is that you don?t get much offers for promotion despite your solid efforts. Promotions involve climbing up the ladder in your line of work however for journalism you don't have any more higher levels or positions to climb up to. Any form of credits, outstanding performances or efforts would only be appreciated and would not give any merit for promotion. However, there is hope for promotion in the form of being transferred or hired by another company, network, firm or group.

Live a dangerous life Obviously, being a journalist would need one to go to places where danger is present. This is the only means on how journalists can convey the situation to readers, listeners and viewers by being onsite despite the dangers. This can include dangerous situations or environments such as interviewing soldiers while in a camp, getting an update on a widespread virus in certain areas, having to try out an extreme sport that people are hyped about and everything. So, if you freak out a lot or are afraid of heights, spiders, dark places and those sorts then maybe you should try other careers.

You will often be criticized You will also be often criticized by editors and fellow-journalists if you are working in this kind of industry. Oftentimes these criticisms arise whenever people have an opposite opinion with yours. Many journalists often breakdown or even fire up when these criticisms happen and they end up doing unexpected things such as quitting their job, initiating a fight with other people, getting fired, depressed and others. If you can't control your emotions and can easily give in to criticisms then you might as well quit the dream of being a journalist.
