6 Questions To Think About When Hiring A Personal Development Coach

By James Gibson

The same coach can produce a world class talent as well as a total failure within the same class or cluster. This arises when there is disconnect between the trainer and the talent. This calls for caution when hiring a personal development coach. Certain preliminary questions need answers to enable you achieve the desired coaching goals.

What results are you looking for by the time the coaching sessions come to an end? This calls for setting of goals at short, medium and long term basis. Achievements will also depend on the weaknesses that you want to be addressed. Such understanding directs you to identify the best trainer who will enable you achieve these goals. When there are no targets, there will be no goals to be achieved.

What would you like to reinforce or add in your career or life? This could be spiritual, social, academic or even career wise. The reason most people do not achieve their long term goals is too much focus on present day engagement. The fact that you survived today is not an assurance that you are prepared for tomorrow. The coaching program should consist of review sessions that help you monitor your strengths and weaknesses. It is an opportunity to develop strategies that push you to the next level.

What aspect of my life needs to change? This means enhancing actions and stopping others. It has been revealed that the life of a person would change if he or she began doing or stopped doing just one thing. These are the hindrances that stop you from achieving your goals. Identify that and use the assistance of the trainer to rectify some of the trends.

How will you know that your goals have been achieved? The trainer does not do what needs to be done in your life. Instead, he directs you. This means that the sessions must have an impact in your life. You need to feel that the coaching sessions are changing your perspective and achievements in life. This will inform you whether it is time to change or continue with coaching.

How has the coach performed previously? Research indicates that sport coaches are usually failed players. The most successful talents are not always the best at coaching. Your focus when evaluating a trainer should be on the performance of his students. Evaluate personal relations and the strategies developed. Always imagine that you will be as successful as the persons who have passed through his hands.

What are your celebration plans? Do not view this as a question of overconfidence. Rather, it is a psychological way of appreciating your current efforts as you prepare for future pursuits. It marks the end of a phase and the beginning of another. It also enables you to recognize growth and therefore adjust strategies with your eyes on future growth.

Coaches will guide you in personal development but you have to do most of the work. You will need to implement the ideas shared with your coach. Take personal initiative in order to achieve more. Set realistic goals and work towards attaining them. You must also set aside resources to implement the strategies suggested.
