How To Put A Foam Saw Into Use

By Walter Thomas

Polystyrene foam is the most common type of material that is used for individual works like the arts and crafts and for several activities carried out in the construction industry. A hot wire foam saw is most appropriate tool that is used to transform the polystyrene material into the required sizes and shapes. The shapes are achieved through cutting the material using a thin wire that forms the saw.

The tool goes through a two hundred degree electrical resistance to make it hot enough therefore termed as hotwire. The first type of wire is the preformed wire that is achieved manually or through fixture with hand pliers. The second kind of wire is the tensioned type held tightly to a bow or frame.

Foam materials that melt easily once exposed to a very low temperature are the most suitable to be cut using a hot wire cutter. Some examples of such materials include polyethylene foams which are resistant to tear, the extruded polystyrene in several colors and the expanded polystyrene in white. In addition, the materials used to prevent explosion in fuel tanks and the ones for protecting against shock are also applicable.

An individual can use the preformed cutter manually to design the material into the required shapes and sizes. The tensioned wire on the other hand can be put into use in five different ways the most basic one being manual employment. A horizontal table upon which the material is placed must be used as a guide is the second way. The horizontal table method is often applicable in the packaging and building industry.

In addition, the cutter can be used with a table that is guided with a template. This method is often appropriate in achieving accuracy in creation of models. The level of accuracy depends on the skills of individual working on the material. The level of precision placed on the templates also determines the accuracy of the results produced through guiding the wire to cut the material.

The computer numerically controlled method is fourth way in which the saw can be guided to cut that material. The goods are cut into slices through guidance of computer systems found on both sides of a block of material. The lathe attachments that are at times present in a computer numerically controlled systems make it possible to create spiral shapes.

A push through slicer is the final method through which the tensioned wire can be applied in the cutting of foam materials. In this method, the tensioned cutting wires are positioned firmly either in a vertical or horizontal frame. Several sheets are created by passing the materials through the parallel wires with minimal use of manpower.

A certain required temperature level should be kept along with the required lengths of wires that are to be placed on the wires. All the fields can produce the right sizes and shapes as long as the requirements are kept in line. The fields in mind in this case is aircraft designs, the creation of surfboards and the architectural industry.
