What Makes A TS Harris Oil Painting Stand Out In Contemporary Art

By Jeffrey Campbell

It is essential for an artist to find a style that represents their aesthetic that lets them express their thoughts and show their technical skill. Many of the best ones have made a mark out of the style that hey have developed. This has been true for many centuries now. The point of creating these pieces can vary depending on what the painter is trying to convey.

Contemporary art has a great way of depicting daily life of the modern times. A notable artist is TS Harris with works that can perfectly adorn any wall. Common themes of her work are mainly the daily lives of modern women surrounded by water. The way Tracey Sylvester has her brush strokes to depict water make a great illusion to the details of steady liquid pool water.

The painter is the product of hard work, dedication and two parents that are both professional artists too. Her works are meant for different kinds of venues and proves that contemporary art is not meant to be lazy, purely conceptual or done for shock value. Essentially her subject and composition are based off of vintage women and aesthetic.

This artist have genius ways of using all the shades of blue which gives here work so much depth. Swimsuits, women with red lips by or in the swimming pool is a great depiction of iconic and nostalgic. The pieces are heavily inspired by mid century snaps. The blue and purple hues often used to render the shadows give off a very bittersweet and nostalgic feeling which has become the trademark in many of her pieces.

Working with oil is tricky especially on a very large canvas, which is done for most if not all of her works. The palette she uses is generously uses blue and can do so much when it comes to showing the vintage vibe. Many of the most recent paintings show swimming pools and the way her colors just show how skin and pool water mix is just so well executed. The strokes are simple but have showed the right fluid movement.

Her choice of foreground and background give away how much the woman probably loves Los Angeles California, where she is based. Buying her work would be a great investment and would look good in any wall. She has a website that feature a schedule for her up coming gallery shows.

Her works are big and are often done on 50x40 inch canvases. If you don't plan on having something as huge as this in your domain, there are prints available for sale. At sizes that range from 11x14, 16x20 and the largest in prints at 28x36 inches.

The nature and gestures often used in subjects are purposely portray suspended moments in time of women enjoying their summer often showing them lounging, smoking, sitting and other leisurely acts. One can tell that the women in the paintings live a somehow luxurious life. The feel of her works are similar to Edward Hopper and his works except it is outdoors and the subjects are up close.

Her way of manipulating colors and the seemingly geometric nature of her works are somehow like paintings by Edward Hopper, his more famous work being Nighthawks. Although Harris is a more close up version of the same vibe for the painting. She specially highlights the female figure in both an elegant and sensual manner.
