Avoid Life's Pretty Wallpaper And Build Some Foundations

By Evan Sanders

In all real things, there's a hint of madness.

If there's no uncertainty in your life, there's a complete lack of depth. Why? Because when you think you "no" everything that is going on you are not looking at what's actually happening in the world. There is so much that we do not see and do not understand, so to be at a place of "knowing" is actually at a place of ignorance. The true magic of life is diving into the depths of uncertainty, especially within your soul, and discovering what is truly possible for yourself that you didn't know you were capable of before.

Doubt? Embrace it.

The world we live in is full of chaos. It's a absolute mess at times and it's a miracle that we can even keep ourselves together for most of it. It feels like we are all on the verge of complete breakdown day after day because of the complexity of what we are constantly dealing with. However, when we slow down a bit to appreciate what is going on with our lives and sit in this moment, we deeply connect to what's actually going on. When we can connect with the present moment we can dive into ourselves much more easily.

But if we stay on the surface, it's like trying to build a home out of wallpaper.

And that's really what all of this surface level stuff is when it boils down to it - wallpaper. It is what you put over something to cause it to look all pretty and nice. Life isn't all pretty and nice. Life is mucky. Life can be vicious. Life can test you and bring you to your knees whenever it feels like it. No matter how much you try to avoid specific things occurring, life acts as a pro dart thrower, hitting it's target every single time - regardless of how fast it's moving.

But in real things (thoughts, feelings, experiences) that have some depth to them, they are not wallpaper in any way. They have some madness to them. They are not predictable, certain and they are almost always completely surprising. They rip the rug out from under you and help you pop right back up when you are down. It's a bit chaotic, but that is the point. The chaos is the attractive part. The chaos is the art. When you start to live in that place, your whole life becomes part of that painting. Then, when you begin to accept that you have a role to play in this world, you can begin to develop the faith driven hand of the painter.

But you have to do the dirty work at the foundational level first.

So forget about the outer layers and focus on the inner layers first. Focus on building the strongest core and foundation and everything else will fall into place. Build your life on rock solid ground instead of flimsy wallpaper and everything becomes a hell of a lot easier.

What is life without risk? Just surviving.
