The Fastest Way To Get NCCCO Certification

By Jocelyn Davidson

Crane operators with more knowledge on safety are marketable and earn comparatively higher salaries. NCCCO certification equips you with additional skills beyond driving the machine. It prepares you for a more secure and exciting career in the general and construction industries. The type of machine determines the area of specialization during training. Safety depends on the environment in which you will be operating.

Safety is given a lot of emphasis during training to ensure that the equipment, personnel and goods being handled are safe at all times. Other employees within the environs will have their safety guaranteed. Creating awareness about the level of risk means that the supervisor or operator will take necessary steps. Safer working environments are more productive and profitable.

The course targets persons operating tower, mobile, service and boom trucks or cranes. Operators of articulate, overhead and digger derrick models are also targeted for training. The lifting environment also involves inspectors, riggers, signal officers and directors. There are special modules for this class of workers.

The two levels of examination are core course and specialization area. The examination for the core course requires a student to sit for 90 questions with multiple choice answers. The questions should be completed in 90 minutes. The paper covers general operations and safety of all crane models and other lifting equipment.

The specialization exam takes one hour to complete, within which the student should answer 26 multiple answer questions. Some of the areas covered by the specialization modules include lattice, telescopic, swing and crawler cranes. Each of the models requires special procedures and approach to guarantee safety.

A certificate is only issued once the student completes the core and specialization examinations. The two examinations are offered as sit-in papers and practical tests. They cover fixed and swing crane operations and safety. The certificate will remain relevant for a period of five years before renewal. Learning and examination preparation materials are obtained from training institutions and exam centers.

All courses or examinations that are to be included in the certificate must have been completed in a span of 12 months. The twelve months begin when you sit for the core paper. They may be counted forward or backwards as long as the core paper is completed. Other papers completed outside this period do not count during certification.

There is a set of requirements that must be fulfilled before a certificate can be issued. Any candidate must be 18 years and above. The NCCCO statutes set medical tests that must be passed as well. There are drug and substance abuse tests to be administered before any certificate is granted.

All operators must obey a set code of ethics to qualify. The package on code of conduct includes passing all examinations within the period stipulated. Certified operators ensure safety of any work environment which reduces production and operation cost.

Every candidate seeking a certificate must undergo medical and physical examination. The physical examination form should not be older than three months. The form issued by the Department of Transport is used to substitute privately acquired forms. Such a form should not be older than two years.
